Livestock Farm Complex
The Department of Livestock Farm Complex (LFC) was established to impart various livestock farm practices and practical skills for undergraduate students and also give practical exposure through training programs to farmers and to the officers of the state government serving farm community.
Units under Livestock Farm complex:
- Dairy Unit: The dairy unit is comprised of crossbred Jersey and Deoni cattle. The animals are maintained for teaching, research and extension purposes. The unit is having fodder chopping machine, vermin compost units.
- Fodder Unit: Fodder section is involved in cultivation of different varieties of fodder crops. Fodder maize is sown on an area of 10.0 acres of land under rainfed and 5.0 acres of land under various perennial grasses and top feed trees with bore well irrigation. The fodder museum is maintained by UG students and 10 varieties of fodder trees are available in the campus. Dry fodder is stored for summer season to feed the livestock.
- Sheep and Goat Unit: The unit maintains mixed breed and Bannur breed of Sheep. Osmanabadi and Non-discriptive breed of Goats under semi-intensive system of rearing.
- Piggery Unit: In Piggery/swine unit, pigs of Large White Yorkshire (LWY) breed are maintained.
- Poultry and Hatchery Unit: This unit at present is having capacity of rearing 300 broilers in deep litter system. It will be expanded to rear 1000 broilers and 1000 layers.
