Animal Genetics And Breeding

The Department is located in the main building of the college. The Department has well equipped laboratories for undergraduate students, class rooms with spacious rooms for the staff. There is a separate computer laboratory which is well equipped with around 11 systems for the students for conducting practicals of computer applications and also used for statistical analysis by faculties of different departments of the college. Imparting high quality education in the subject of Animal Genetics and Breeding and undertaking basic and applied research in the field of Population Genetics, Conservation and Molecular Genetics are the major objectives of the department. Faculties of the department are also involved in formulating new research projects / schemes with financial assistance from University/external funding agencies. Survey, evaluation and characterization of native breeds of livestock of this part of Karnataka are the thrust area of research. Three manuals prepared by the Department for UG students, Viz., Biostatistics & Computer Application, Principles of Animal Genetics and Population Genetics and Livestock & Poultry Breeding. Department faculty is also involved in various extension activities like serving as resource person for various training programmes, participating as judge for Livestock shows. The faculties also publish research articles in journals and popular articles in magazines and newspaper in the areas of Animal genetics and Breeding.
