Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education
The mission of the department is to impart technical knowledge and skills in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, to conduct need-based research on Animal Husbandry extension problems, to transfer Animal Husbandry technologies and to provide Livestock advisory services. At present, the department is offering one under graduate course for the students of B.V.Sc. & A.H. The department is recognized for offering M.V.Sc. Degree programme and hence, also offers postgraduate courses.
The completed research projects include Action research for rural community organization of livestock farmers (2000), Status of bullock power utilization in Bidar district (2001-2003), On farm trial on supplementing local goats (2001-2003), Study of livestock production activities by SHG’s (2002-2005), DBT sponsored research project “An Action Research for self-employment of SC/ST youth through Goat rearing under stall feeding as a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development in Hyderabad-Karnataka Region”, Identification and documentation of Ethno-Veterinary practices in Bidar District”, NAIP sponsored research project on “Livelihood security through resource and entrepreneurship management in Bidar District” and “Gap assessment between current and standard organic livestock production practices in Bidar District”. The recent project included World Bank funded Sujala - 3 project on Support for livestock and extension activities (in Bidar District) through watershed development department.
The department regularly conducts on farm demonstrations, farmers trainings and officers refresher training courses in collaboration with ICAR, KVC, NGO and other organizations. Further, media communication, preparation of Livestock project reports, organization of animal health camps /livestock shows, publication of technical literature in the form of popular articles, folders and leaflets, formation of SHG’s/LIG’s, technical advisory services, guest lectures etc. are the routine activities of the department.
