Department of Parasitology
The Department of Veterinary Parasitology has been established since 1984 as a part of Veterinary College, Nandinagar, Bidar with the aim of providing quality education, research and extension service to the undergraduate students, field veterinarians and farmers. The department is functioning with two laboratories such as Helminthology laboratory cum museum, Entomology and Protozoology Laboratory. It also involved in diagnosis of parasitic diseases of animals and birds by examination of clinical samples and identification of parasites collected from domestic and wild animals and birds.
The Department is routinely involved in examination of faeces, blood, skin scrapings, parasites and other clinical samples received from VCC, LFC and other departments, various Veterinary Dispensaries of Department of AH&VS, Govt. of Karnataka. The department also provides disease investigation skills and clinical sample examination training to field Veterinarians and creating awareness about parasitic diseases among farmers.
Infrastructure
The Department is well equipped with laboratory equipments and instruments required for UG teaching as per VCI specification. The research lab is equipped with instruments to carry out basic and applied research in Parasitology.
Education
As per the VCI regulations (MSVE 2016), the Department is offering course of VPA -Veterinary Parasitology (3+2) for third professional year undergraduate students.

Extension
- Involving disease investigation work along with other pre-clinical departments.
- Creating awareness about parasitic diseases among farmers via radio talks, TV programmes, pamphlets and popular articles in vernacular language.
