Department of Animal Nutrition
The Department of Nutrition is established in the year 1984. At present as per the VCI regulations (MSVE 2016), the Department is offering course of Animal Nutrition (ANN 3+1) for second professional year undergraduate (B.V.Sc & A.H.) students. The department is also offering post graduate and doctoral programmes since 1995-96 and 2012-13, respectively. So far, 22 M.V.Sc and 4 Ph.D students have successfully completed. The Department is well equipped with laboratory equipments and instruments required for UG teaching as per VCI specification. Laboratory is equipped with protein digestion and distillation unit, Soxtech, Fibretech, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, AAS, GLC Cryocentrifuse, flame photometer, dark field microscope etc. Also other facilities available viz. feed mill for compound feed preparation, complete feed preparation, feed analysis viz. proximate and forage fibre analysis, In vitro rumen studies, mineral estimations, feed formulations for different categories of livestock and In vivo studies for sheep, goat and cattle for research. The department faculties regularly involved in following activities:
- Analysis of proximate and fibre fractions of Feed and fodders
- Estimation of energy (In vitro) content of feed and fodders
- Concentrate feed preparation for different livestock’s
- Complete feed block preparation
- Demonstration of silage making and dry fodder enrichment
- Estimation of minerals
